Comic Book Wednesday – Thinning the Herd
By
Dave
It’s been too long since I sat down and looked at the
pull list I have with my Local Comic Shop. I have a huge stack of unread comics
at home, and part of that stack consists of books that I have lost interest in
and am now buying out of habit. Like The
Wicked + The Divine, which has meandered so badly that I don’t even know
what’s going on. I probably have six unread issues at home, not including a
one-shot that I couldn’t be bothered to read.

Dragon Con 2017: Steve Blum Interview
by Beth
You may not know Steve Blum by name, but if you've ever watched anime (or regular cartoons) or played a video game in the last 15 years then you know the voice. He's been in hundreds of video games, and I recognize his voice immediately now. DOOM, Halo, Bioshock, Dragon Age, Fallout, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, WoW, KotOR, and too many others to name. If there's a video game franchise, Steve Blum has been part of it at some point. He holds a Guinness Book world record for the most prolific video game voice actor. He was at 261 in 2012 at the time he received this award, but a quick glance at his IMDB page shows he's blow that mark out of the water. Sometimes I'll be playing a video game, and pick his voice out of a group of NPC's that I'm walking past. I always turn around to find out which character he is in the bunch. I just prefer to give my in-game gold to a dwarf with a familiar voice is all. And to me there is no voice no more familiar than his.

Dragon Con 2017: Bill Corbett Interview
by Beth
Having been approved for 2 press conferences, 1 group interview, and 1 individual interview at Dragon Con this year was extremely exciting. Exciting and terrifying.

Devlin's Domain - The Fan ( Der Fan )
A few months ago I reviewed a documentary called I Think We're Alone Now that was about deranged people with an unhealthy obsession with the 80s pop singer, Tiffany. They say reality is often stranger than fiction, but in this case the fiction is coming from Germany. Leave it to the Germans to take a tale of an obsessed fan to the absolute extreme. I assure you that this is a nightmare worth having.

Beth's Dragon Con 2017 Recap: Part 2
by Beth
If you missed the first part of my recap you can catch up here. I meant to get this up sooner, but the con crud was bad this year. I've still got some fluid in my lungs, but I don't want to die anymore so that's an improvement. Here, at last, is what went down on Saturday and Sunday.

Christina's DragonCon Wrap-Up Part One
By Christina
Captains and kilts and big gothic concerts. Possibly the weirdest tag line in history if you didn’t run in our circle. But you do, so it isn’t. This pretty much sums up the highlights of my Labor Day weekend, which I shall now regale you with. None of us likes Post Con Depression, so let us stay at the Con for a while longer, shall we? Allow me to take you back there as I recap my personal highlights from DragonCon 2017.

Comic Book Wednesday – Previews September 2017: “I’m Late, I’m Late!”
By Dave
If you don’t know, Previews
is the catalog that Diamond Comic Distributors use to offer the products they
distribute to comic book stores around the country. This is where you can view
and order (through your favorite Local Comic Book Shop) comic books, trade
paperback collections, t-shirts, books, media, and toys and other collectibles
from hundreds of different vendors that deal in geek-oriented merchandise. The
genius part is that you actually have to pay for your copy of Previews for the privilege of ordering
other things to pay for.
It’s like the Ren Fest except without the horse poo
smell.
So every month a new edition of Previews is sent out to comic book stores. Contained in the pages
within are products that might be currently available or could be released
anytime in the next year; but are typically about two months away. Most of this
month’s offerings are scheduled to ship in November.
Now it’s time to discuss a few of the weird and/or wonderful
items offered in this month’s edition!

Beth's Dragon Con 2017 Recap: Part 1
by Beth (obviously)
On Thursday morning I woke up with no other plans than to pack my bags, and saunter casually down to Dragon Con. I was only spending the night on Saturday since the Dirty Dirty Con Con Game Game Show Show (abbreviated as DDCCGGSS from here on out) wasn't going on until midnight this year. I was lucky enough to secure a bed in "the Phantom Suite" so that I could stow my shit early. I had more gear than usual since Gnoll talked me into pulling out our Halloween costumes from last year, and cosplaying as Team Rocket from the Pokemon cartoon. I also had to do a "sexy Thanos" makeup for the DDCCGGSS which was definitely a first for me. I figured that if Thursday is the new Friday I'd be better off taking my luggage early. Then, a little before 11am I got an email from media relations that 4 of my 10 interview requests had been approved. Panic time!

Toy Stories – Star Wars: The Last Jedi Force Friday II
By Dave
Force Friday II – the big launch for not just Hasbro’s,
but everyone’s products for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi –
happened while I was at Dragon Con. To be honest, I didn’t care.

Dragon Con 2017: The Dragon Award Winners and Other Stuff
by Beth
So another Dragon Con is in the books, and I'm frakking exhausted. I didn't plan well by having my first post-con post go up the day after the con ends, but here we are. (I know I said I'd talk about Game of Thrones, but the finale came at a bad time for that. Plus, Phantom and I are talking about doing a podcast since we both have so much to say about the most recent season). I'm sure you're all as tired as I am so hopefully you'll forgive me for getting some press release business out of the way this week before really getting fully into my coverage next week. I promise you it'll be worth the wait. I didn't see a ton of panels (the ones I did see were great though), but I did get four of the ten interviews I applied for so it really will be worth it. Check back every Tuesday in September for my continuing Dragon Con coverage. But first...
