Dragon Con 2017: Beth's Interview Requests
by Beth
As Dragon Con quickly approaches I'll probably only stop talking about it here long enough to give my thoughts on this season of Game of Thrones once the finale airs. Other than that it'll most likely be all Con all the time. Several weeks back I received an invitation from the lovely people in Dragon Con media relations to submit interview requests for Walk of Fame guests. From what I've seen they don't throw this out to everyone so I had to think long and hard about who to request. I didn't want to aim too high, but then I also figured "what the hell, why not?" and asked for some people I might not be important enough to talk to anyway. There are some pretty big names this year, and narrowing this list down to 10 (each reporter only gets 10 requests) was daunting Here, for your reading pleasure is the list of my requested interviews, and why I picked them.

Dragon Con 2017: The Dragon Awards
by Beth
Last year I encouraged you to sit on your ass, and vote for the first annual Dragon Awards. This year I encourage you to do the same thing. I didn't get on in time for the nominations so if you want to have a hand in choosing the nominees next year look for the nominations process to start in early July. I'm a little mad at myself about it too since Thrawn didn't get a nomination. Just because you didn't get nominate your favorite whatever it is you like doesn't mean you can't still participate though.

Dragon Con 2017: The Costume Post – aka – In Your Satin Tights
By Phantom Troublemaker
It takes many different elements to create the magic of Dragon Con – fan Tracks, celebrity guests, apple pie – but in my opinion few are as important as the costuming community.
It takes many different elements to create the magic of Dragon Con – fan Tracks, celebrity guests, apple pie – but in my opinion few are as important as the costuming community.
To me, Dragon Con’s biggest virtue is that it gives me
the ability to immerse myself in an environment that is accepting, nurturing,
and fantastical. Where, for five(ish) days we can all be whoever we were mean
to be – our best selves. Whether you’re a wizard, a wrestler, a soldier from
the future, or a mad scientist, you get to be you. And more importantly, you’re
surrounded by fellow wizards, warriors, and Wonder Women.

Comic Book Wednesday – Previews August 2017: “Things With Pages”
By
Phantom Troublemaker
If
you don’t know, Previews
is the catalog that Diamond Comic Distributors use to offer the
products they distribute to comic book stores around the country.
This is where you can view and order (through your favorite Local
Comic Book Shop) comic books, trade paperback collections, t-shirts,
books, media, and toys and other collectibles from hundreds of
different vendors that deal in geek-oriented merchandise. The genius
part is that you actually have to pay for your copy of Previews
for the privilege of ordering other things to pay for.
It’s
like the Ren Fest except without the horse poo smell.
So
every month a new edition of Previews
is sent out to comic book stores. Contained in the pages within are
products that might be currently available or could be released
anytime in the next year; but are typically about two months away.
Most of this month’s offerings are scheduled to ship in October.
