I went into HeroesCon hoping to score a few interviews with some of the guests there and ended up with seven excellent segments that I cannot wait for you guys to hear. As I write this I am not entirely sure that Justin Peterson’s bit survived. I don’t know what the deal is, but the app I used – Smart Voice Recorder – did something weird with that audio file. It is taking up space in my memory and had a time length and everything, but it currently will not play. Obviously by the time I post this I’ll know whether or not I have the interview (I do not). It will be a shame if it’s lost because it was a great one. We talked about mediums and digital art – among other things – and it was fascinating.
Of course, I’ve got
some other goodies in here, too. I got to sit down with Jennifer of Handmade Stuffs, Kyle Starks, Jamie Cosley, Hashim of Silver Panther Studios, and even ended up with a surprise interview with Jim Rugg.
Everybody was very cool and I feel like I did a pretty decent job of
interviewing. I’m sure I’ll get better over time, but the most important
thing to me this go-round was to not ask everybody the exact same
questions. I think I tailored each session to the particular artist for
the most part.
The one thing I wish I
had thought to do was talk to the guy with the Mystery Machine. We
chatted with him during family time - before I was suited up – and
he was an interesting dude with some stories. I bet he would’ve
been a great segment. But I was all about talking to the artists.
Believe me – it took everything I had to nut up and ask these folks
to chat. If you’ve been following Needless Things for awhile, you
know how I am about intruding on people’s time and space. But
almost everybody I approached about an interview was totally open and
congenial.
Almost. Listen to the
episode and I’ll tell you about what I perceived as a brush-off. It
came as a total surprise; as it was from somebody who I thought was a
lock for some interview time. If you’ve been following my HeroesCon
stuff you’ll notice the name missing from the list up there. I
don’t want to write about it because I want to be sure and get the
tone right. I don’t know for sure if the dude was avoiding talking
to me or not. Even if he was that’s fine and good. Nobody is
obligated to spend time chatting with the giant masked dude. But it
was weird.
Like I said – listen
and I’ll fill you in.
That’s about all I need
to write. Let Episode 4 of the Needless Things Podcast do the rest!:
Always great chatting with ya, Phantom.
