Toy Review – DC Universe – Young Justice: Artemis By Mattel

Judging by the new Batman Legacy and Young Justice toy lines Mattel is uniting all of its DC Comics properties under the “DC Universe” banner. I can’t really say if this is a good move or not, but I think it gives them more freedom to mess around with whatever the core line ends up being. Plus, they can move almost seamlessly from Batman Legacy to Superman Legacy to whatever the next big thing is without the headache of launching a whole new line every time. So I’m leaning towards good for right now.
Aside from the intolerable voice of Jesse McCartney coming out of Robin I really like the new Young Justice cartoon. It hasn’t captured me like Earth’s Mightiest Heroes or even Thundercats, but it’s solid. Robin’s horrible voice might be affecting me more than it should, but it really bothers me. Even my three-year-old son knows it isn’t right. Teen Robin shouldn’t sound like a six-year-old girl.

Toy Review – DC Universe – Batman Legacy: Prototype Batsuit Batman & Lt. James Gordon By Mattel

I find it extremely weird that Batman Legacy encompasses Movie Masters and DCUC-style figures. Not to mention the Arkham City figures.
I was excited by the Mr. Freeze figure from the first series of single-carded figures but ultimately disappointed. As far as the subject of today’s review goes, I was absolutely thrilled to be getting a figure of Gary Oldman as Gordon but significantly less thrilled that he was packed in with a figure that has been clearanced for as little as $2.99.

Wrestling Recap: Platinum Championship Wrestling – Sacred Ground Chapter 2 - 9/24/2011

From the Baptist Church to the Gay Bar: Adventures of the DCW Hooliganz

By Phantom Troublemaker

I have set a challenge for myself with this one. I am not going to do my normal, ridiculous recap of a wrestling event. I’m going to use real names and do my best to relate the events as they actually happened. Because this is Platinum Championship Wrestling’s Sacred Ground Chapter 2 and not only is it PCW’s answer to WrestleMania, I was actually much more excited about being at this past Saturday’s event than I was to be at the WWE show earlier this year.

I give myself about two paragraphs before things get goofy again. But I’m trying here.

Toy Review – GI Joe: Sky Striker By Hasbro

I hesitated a bit before buying this one because I knew I had the SDCC Starscream version on the way. Did I really need two Sky Strikers, even if they do sport extremely different decos? After all, I had just passed on the new Toys R Us Exclusive Y-Wing fighter that was just a repaint of the one I already have.

Toy Review – Masters of the Universe Classics: Leech By Mattel

I think I did myself a big favor by spending the last 87 weeks talking about Dragon*Con. I’ve spent so much time doing narrative that I’m ready to jump back into some toy reviews, which, quite frankly I was a little burned out on.
So it’s toy time again and what better way to get back into things than by reviewing the Masters of the Universe Classics figure that I’ve been more excited about than any other?

Dragon*Con 2011 – Odds and Ends

Day 4
There really isn’t that much for me to write about Monday (and I have no pictures for this one). I once again had the alarm set for 10:30 – sheer foolishness. I don’t even remember turning it off this time and I certainly didn’t set a new alarm because I woke up at 12:17. This is bad because checkout time is 12:00. I wouldn’t say I panicked, but I wasn’t happy. Thankfully I was mysteriously mostly packed and only had to brush my teeth and put last night’s clothes away. I called the auto check-out, threw all my trash into the cooler and split.

Dragon*Con 2011 – The Late Night Puppet Slam

Let’s talk about fucking puppets.
Wait – that didn’t sound right. I didn’t mean to imply fornication with puppets – not that Janice isn’t totally hot or anything – I just meant, like; fuck, yeah – puppets! Right on! Enthusiasm. Not sex. Absolutely not puppet sex.
Although there was a dash of puppet sexy time as well. Mulder and Scully puppet sexy time.

Dragon*Con 2011 – Part 8 - Sunday

Day 3
So I’m sitting here two weeks after Dragon*Con started still writing my recap and you won’t even be reading it until two weeks after the last day. But I’ve had stuff going on. Lots of weird stuff at work, family time and the fact that I’m just now starting to feel normal after fighting off some kind of funk for three weeks.
I mentioned my two trips to the doctor previous to Dragon*Con and I’m sure you’re dying to hear some elaboration and follow-up, right?
Well I’ll be merciful and put it off until the end of this thing so you don’t feel obligated to read it. Just know that there’s an awkward, unexpected conversation involved that might make you laugh.
For now, let’s talk about Sunday at Dragon*Con.

Dragon*Con 2011 – Part 7 - Saturday Night

Also Day 2
We have this thing worked out where Mrs. Troublemaker catches a ride down on Saturday night. She understands that I have nerd stuff to do all weekend and am a little too absent-minded to do simple things like remember to drive out to the house and get her. Just like I understand that she attended many years of Dragon*Con in a row as a dealer and does not have the love (or patience) for the Con and its denizens that I do. So she comes down for a few hours on Saturday night, gets plastered, takes some pictures and leaves before she can punch any annoying Jedi in the face and get us all thrown out. It works for everybody.

Dragon*Con 2011 – Part 6 - Saturday

Day 2
I can’t believe we’re only on the second day now. But that’s just how crazy-go-nuts this thing called Dragon*Con is. And I guess technically Day 2 started yesterday with the parade, but believe me when I say we’ve got a whole lot more action to cover in the hours between 11:30 and 5 AM.
Holy crap it made me tired just typing that.

Dragon*Con 2011 – Part 5 - The Parade!

One of Dragon*Con’s big annual traditions is the parade through the streets of Downtown Atlanta. Thousands of nerds gather, garbed in their gear of choice to show love for whatever niche of dorkery they prefer. And thousands more spectators – con-goers, residents and football fans that are just there for the opening game – are treated to the sight of wizards, zombies, Stormtroopers, Ghostbusters, Klingons and just about any other character you can imagine.
It’s absolutely breathtaking.
Or at least, it was last year.

Dragon*Con 2011 – Part 3 - DCW!DCW!DCW!

Yes, folks – it’s once again time for the scarred grapplers of Dragon*Con Championship Wrestling to take the ring and do absurd things like hit each other with boxes of Lucky Charms. I was late as always thanks to elevator issues and the fact that my dumb ass left my badge in the room and didn’t realize it until it was pointed out to me by the fine staff of the Hyatt. But thankfully, the DCW Hooliganz held a spot for me.
Tonight’s beautiful palette of violence is brought to you by Jooze Malt Liquor Energy Drink, Milton Wadpepper’s Deer Scent and the letter “R”.
We open things up with a ceremony to present a bunch of guys with their DCW Hall of Fame plaques or something. Being honored this year were…

Dragon*Con 2011 – Part 2

Day 1
Despite the hassle of the previous day, I woke up on Friday morning with a song in my heart (“Abigail” by King Diamond) and a smile on my face. After packing whatever last minute items were needed I loaded up the Phantomobile, hugged the family and made my way down to the magical land of Nerdia. Or Nerdvana. Or Nerdi Gras. Or El Nerderino, if you’re not into the whole brevity thing.

Dragon*Con 2011 – Part 1

Well, I’m back in reality after seven blissful days of not having to think about my horrible job; four of which were spent at the greatest party in the world, three just enjoying family life. Thankfully I only have to work a couple of days before getting a long weekend off. That also means I only have two days to record all of my thoughts and experiences about this year’s Dragon*Con, so I better get to it.

Dragon*Con'd The Fudge Out

I'll be back before the end of the week with something. Maybe a toy review tomorrow; but at the latest I'll start the Dragon*Con recap on Thursday. I'm a just straight-up wore the fuck out. It was a great weekend and I have a lot of stories to tell.
Oh, yeah - I also have to respond to this fucking nonsense.
In the meantime, please enjoy this video of the 7th Doctor playing the spoons at Dragon*Con on Friday:

Until next time, stay creepy

Dragon*Con 2011: Hot Dudes

I already rehashed one article from last year (the dragon thing) and I really don’t want to be that cheap again. So I asked Mrs. Troublemaker for an idea. She is often not only inspirational to me but a wellspring of clever ideas that I would never have thought of on my own. It’s wonderful to have a different but similar perspective in such proximity.
Other times she’ll say something like, “You should write about the guys that are going to be at Dragon*Con that all the girls are going to be drooling over.”

Dragon*Con 2011: Crap I Want

Sorry today's post is so lazy picture-wise. I've got a lot to get done and just don't have time to do pics. Don't worry, though. If you follow me on Facebook and Twitter I'll more than make up for it over the weekend.
Today is going to be a very long day, so I’m going to attempt to make some of the time pass by rambling about Dragon*Con. I’m starting with the intention of covering what I’m going to be looking for in the Dealer’s Rooms and might also hit on some artists I’d like to get work from. I’m going to try and be entertaining, but this is mostly going to be so I can remember what I’m supposed to be doing after my twenty-eighth straight hour of drinking.
Okay, I can’t actually drink that much (unlike some of the others in my crew); but with everything going on during the best weekend of the year it’s easy to lose track of the fact that you can actually accomplish stuff.
For instance, I just now recalled that there are a few DVDs I am going to be wanting to purchase.
